Aerodynamics play a big role in any car’s performance. The more air resistance a vehicle has to face when reaching higher speeds, the harder it’ll be to control it. Moreover, fighting against air resistance requires a higher use of energy and gas. That’s why more and more car manufacturers include spoilers in their designs, while many drivers have been installing spoilers and wings on their vehicles since a long time ago. But, what’s the difference between a wing and a spoiler? Let’s have a look at the differences between the two of them and the advantages each of them can bring to different drivers and vehicles.

Wings:

A spoiler wing has the purpose of redirecting the air flowing on top of a car to push it down. Basically, wings pick up the flow of air and make it help the car run a lot faster. Drivers should be careful when taking a turn, though!

Spoilers:

A spoiler can be faced at the front or at the rear of a vehicle. Spoilers help air circulate on those parts of the vehicle where low-pressure pockets are often formed, which creates drag. By making the airflow away from the vehicle, spoilers decrease drag. This helps the car perform better and with less energy.

Which one is better?

Each one offers different advantages. To really know which one is better, vehicles should be individually tested in an air tunnel to assess their performance. However, many drivers will add rear spoilers and wings to their cars just for the looks. Which is also fine.
