About products and suppliers

When it comes to handling foodstuffs, while cooking gets most of the spotlight, storage is just as important. Using the correct place, temperature, and method to seal and store food will be the difference between spoiling in a couple of days or lasting years, depending on the product. In this context, printed mylar bags can not only help users store and sort their items but also serve to build a brand identity for businesses.

What are mylar bags?

Known for their sterile and airtight storage, mylar bags are made of plastic, more specifically polyethylene terephthalate (PET). This means that the bags are usually reusable, as they won't be stained or damaged by being in contact with food. This way, they can be used for room temperature, refrigerator, and freezer storage. Moreover, they can store everything from flour and powdered ingredients to soups and other liquids without risking leakages through the material. This all comes together to create a versatile storage solution that is puncture-resistant, odorless, BPA-free, and long-lasting. That being said, food can still go bad if stored incorrectly or with too much moisture. For this reason, it's recommended to only use foods with less than 10% moisture for long-term storage.

Types of mylar bags

Each type of mylar bag caters to a different storage need. For instance, when it comes to the sealing mechanism, custom-printed mylar bags with zip locks are very popular with supplement companies. This is mainly due to the convenience of having a reusable seal that still holds up after multiple uses, which works great for products that require multiple doses a day. Slidable zippers, on the other hand, don’t run the risk of losing tightness over time and make it much more straightforward to open or close the bag. Sealed, one-use mylar bags are usually reserved for items that need to be vacuum-sealed or will go bad no matter the storage style.

Material-wise, aside from just polymers, some pre-printed mylar bags for sale incorporate aluminum foil into their structure. This makes them much more resistant to high temperatures, meaning they can be used in ovens. Moreover, using a mylar bag for recipes that require marinating or similar processes might save a lot of headache, as the ingredients can be submerged in the sauce without any risk of spilling.

Lastly, when it comes to their shape, they are generally either flat or have a wide base to be stored standing. The latter can be a good choice when storing powders, sugar, flour, or other ingredients that will neatly accumulate on the bottom. The added weight helps the bag to remain straight and prevents falls. Flat custom mylar bags go in the opposite direction, ditching the bottom-heavy design in favor of ease of storage. These bags are great for ingredients that don’t have much of a regular size, such as fruits and meats.
