About products and suppliers

A planetary gearbox also termed an epicyclic gearbox, is a type of gearbox with an aligned input and output shaft affixed to facilitate the movement of motor vehicles and motorized equipment.

What are the functional features of a planetary gearbox?

In planetary gear systems, you will find a central sun gear, ring gear, a carrier, and planet gears, and surrounding them is the ring gear that combines the formation. The sun gear (usually yellow) centers all other gears and conveys torque to the planet gears (usually blue), which are mounted on flexible carriers (usually green). The planetary drives are joined by a carrier that is attached to the output shaft. When the input powers the sun gear, it results in spinning: The planetary gears mesh with the sun gear, and based on this, the planetary gears turn according to their axes once the sun gear starts to rotate.

What are the advantages of a planetary gearbox?

A planetary gear set produces lots of torque as the load is shared among multiple gears. Planetary gearbox transmissions are ideal for vehicles and motorized equipment, thanks to their compactness, high efficiency, high transmission ratio, and large power-to-weight ratio. The planetary gear system also creates more contact surfaces and a larger contact area between the gears than a traditional parallel-axis gear system.

Where are planetary gearboxes used?

Planetary gearboxes are used in several machines for different purposes. They are used in robots to increase torque. Planetary gearbox transmissions facilitate printing machines in printing presses to reduce the speed of rollers and are also used in big machines for precise positioning. An epicyclic gear set is used in a packaging machine for reproducible products. Planetary gear motors collectively facilitate internal combustion engine and electric motor performances, thanks to their speed, reliability, and capability to withstand high torque loads. Planetary gear train (PGT) has been widely used in the transmissions of automobiles, wind turbines, helicopters, aircraft engines, and many others.
