About products and suppliers

A music box is a device that produces automatic music. It uses a disc or revolving cylinder and pins to pluck the steel comb's tuned teeth. A ballerina music box first became popular in the 18th century, and some complex variations have bells or a tiny drum aside from the metal comb.

What are the music box types?

A cylinder music box was a vintage music box popular in the 19th century. A metal cylinder in a wooden music box produced the music using programmed raised pins. It may play for a few seconds or repeatedly, but its downside is that it can only play the preprogrammed tune. On the other hand, a custom music box can have the Germany-invented cheaper disc music box. Moreover, it can play several tunes because customers can buy several discs that play a specific song. However, innovations such as the nickelodeon, orchestrion, phonograph, and player piano replaced it at the start of the 20th century.

Charles Reuge invented the Reuge music box in 1865 and came with three varieties – the Lounge, Studio, and 1865. The 1865 antiques were the antique music box made from wood. On the other hand, the practical Lounge alternative had enhanced sound quality. Lastly, the Studio collection was contemporary and sophisticated. The Thomas Kinkade music box played Christian-themed songs with inspirational designs. The Sankyo music box became famous in the mid-20th century. The Japanese-made music box comes inside toys and jewelry boxes. It may also have different figurines.

General tips for caring for a music box

A small music box should be dry, away from moisture, direct sun, and hit. Users should periodically play it to prevent any issues. They shouldn't fully wind it because the pressure may wear out the components quickly. Moreover, they shouldn't touch the wind-up music box's parts because they may damage the delicate movement components. If not in use, its lid should remain closed to reduce exposure to harsh elements.
